Hosted by the TaxBit Inclusion & Belonging Committee, the focus of the evening was fostering Diversity & Connection through inspirational female contributions across industries
On Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023, TaxBit’s Inclusion & Belonging Committee hosted our very first Seattle event in our new Seattle office on Elliot Way. Over 80 attendees joined us for TaxBit’s Trivia Night & Story Swap, where we celebrated key contributions that women have made in tech, history, and beyond.
In between each of our trivia rounds, we hand-selected 11 CEOs, Product Managers, Heads of Finance, doctors and other impressive leaders to join us for our Story Swap. A Story Swap is traditionally known as a method of storytelling with the goal of building empathy and understanding between diverse populations. This can be through storytelling, creative writing, or other forms of expression to share experiences in an accessible way.
For TaxBit’s version, each of the participating women created an individual slide that spoke to who they are and their own unique experiences with topics such as:
Throughout the story swap, we heard courageous stories of empowerment, shared social media accounts of trailblazing women to follow, and learned about inspiring female influences & inspirations. These amazing women shared experiences from tech, finance, law, and medical industries — with a common theme of celebrating key contributions that have impacted their careers up until today.
After 31 questions and fierce round-by-round competition, Team “Dry Land is a Myth” came away as the winner of TaxBit’s Inaugural Trivia Night, securing gift bags sourced from female locally-owned businesses (i.e. Honey House Naturals, Seattle Chocolate & Grey-Day Candles). Guests enjoyed cocktails inspired by women inventors and also snacked on appetizers & cookies from local female-owned businesses (i.e. Mexi D’Oeuvres, Rachel’s Ginger Beer, & Low Rider Baking Company).
TaxBit’s Inclusion & Belonging was founded in September 2022 with a mission to create and foster opportunities to learn and celebrate different cultures, share stories & experiences. Our north star is to transparently discuss how we can continue to make TaxBit an inclusive, belonging-focused place for all, from inside our offices to our local communities and beyond.
We look forward to hosting additional events throughout our offices in Salt Lake City, San Francisco, New York, and Washington D.C. offices in the coming months!
